What is propolis?
Propolis is a substance bees use to protect the hive from impurities. It was already known by the ancient Greeks, and the name is said to come from there: pro polis = “in defense of the city.” Propolis consists mainly of wax from tree buds and resin from spruce and pine, but its exact chemical composition may vary depending on where in the world the bees live and which plants they have access to.

Harvested with care
Bees collect the ingredients during their flights and later transform them into propolis, which is used to seal the hive. To avoid disturbing the hive’s balance, only about 80–100 grams of propolis are harvested per colony per season.
